AUTUMN ON SKYLINE DRIVE – SHENANDOAH NT’L PARK

October 21, 2014 in Trips in Eastern United States

This past weekend I returned to Shenandoah National Park’s Skyline Drive hoping for some beautiful views as the colors turn.  While I wish I were a week or so earlier, I think the foliage was still quite beautiful.  The park was packed so parking at certain lookout points proved tedious, but we still managed to see some beautiful scenery.  While it was cloudy that day, the weather was still much better than the last time I went.  Since the weather in the mountains can change so fast, I highly recommend you check out these webcams of the park before departing on your journey.   Skyline Drive in the Fall

Skyline Drive is a great place to see some really stunning views of Virginia.  Be aware that people are visiting from all over the place and there are car accidents all the time.  So drive carefully and pay attention!  I was fortunate enough to not have to drive during this trip.  One thing I did discover on the way there, however, is that curvy mountain roads still make me nauseous when I’m not the one in the driver’s seat!

Annapolis, Maryland

ANNAPOLIS BY THE BAY

October 13, 2014 in Everything Else / Trips in Eastern United States

If you have ever been to Maryland but never Annapolis, you are really missing out on an amazing place.  Maryland’s capital is a charming place full of beauty.  As many know, it is the home of the Naval Academy, so you’ll see men and women in white uniform roaming the area.  You’ll enjoy the cute boutique shops along with the fabulous bar/restaurant scene.  The best part, in my opinion, is the architecture.  There are countless beautiful buildings full of history.  The views are gorgeous – so be sure to bring your camera along.

Near Christmas time every year, they have the Annapolis Lights Parade in the harbor.  Boats are illuminated with tons of holiday spirit for everyone to see.  It really is a neat scene!  Click here for more information about the parade of lights.  Be sure to walk around Annapolis if the opportunity ever presents itself.

Lookout Mountain - Colorado

THE VIEW FROM LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN – GOLDEN, COLORADO

September 22, 2014 in Everything Else

Lookout Mountain was kind of an “oops” that my cousin and I stumbled upon when I was out there in the Spring.  She and I drove around only to run into signs for the lookout as well as Buffalo Bill’s gravesite.  I can’t even begin to tell you how gorgeous the views were from both places.  You can hit both spots – the lookout as well as the Buffalo Bill Museum in one trip.  You can’t miss the signs so they’re super easy to locate.  Click each photo to see it larger – these just don’t do it justice!

On your way back down the mountain, you’ll likely see people biking, hiking, and hang gliding.  We also noticed 3 or 4 deer eating right on the side of the road, practically in the road, without a care in the world.  I had my GoPro attached to the side of the car when we came across the deer but as my luck has it, I somehow managed to accidentally delete it from my computer.  🙁

If you happen to be in Denver and you’re looking for something to do outside of the city, surely check this area out!  This drive was definitely one of the highlights of my trip!

Check out my short little iphone video of the lookout below:
