If you love to travel, then I can only assume you love to photograph your travels. I know I do! I reviewed Shutterfly photo books a while back because I tend to use them frequently when I am putting my travel photos into book format. If there is anything I love, it’s the combination of travel & photography – and photo books are perfect for displaying those memories!
I’m going to start by showing you the specs of the book I am reviewing:
Album Cover: 8×0 / Saddle Brown Genuine Leather Cover / Foil Stamping
Paper Type: Professional HD Glossy
After creating an account, getting started is simple. They have a convenient dashboard showing all of your current photo books, and the option to create new ones. It also shows how much storage space is left in your gallery as well as estimated processing times depending on what type of project you chose.
Beginning the process is pretty self-explanatory. Simply select the cover, paper, size/shape, and layout. There is a nice variety of colors to choose from, as well as page types, and layouts. The default number of pages is 10, but additional 2 page sets come at a cost of $3.20. For my book, I chose the brown genuine leather cover option and 26 pages.
ADDING YOUR PHOTOS
I like that they offer a number of sources to upload from such as Flickr, Instagram, and Facebook. For this book, I downloaded photos from my computer, as I picked a template that required large high-resolution images.
It took a bit for me to get acquainted with the software, but once I did, it was pretty simple. All of your tools are in the bar to your left. In order to place images into your book, you simply drag and drop into the pages. Each page’s layout can be changed too, and there are PLENTY of options to choose from. You can also add frames, stickers, text, and various colors of foil stamping.
The shipment arrived tightly shrink wrapped in a cardboard box. I love that it was so well protected because I’m always afraid of books getting ruined during shipment.
It was placed in a brown decorative box (an extra $11.95) bound together by an elastic ribbon and tan tissue paper enveloping the book inside. I was impressed with the overall packaging; it was simple but elegant.
The cover appears luxurious – much more elegant than a traditional image wrap cover. It’s soft, thick, and durable, giving it a really expensive quality. My only gripe (and it really isn’t a huge deal) would be the foil text. Does anything look strange about it to you? It took me a few glances but eventually I noticed that the kerning is a bit odd. The -er in my name is quite far apart from the f. Like I said, this isn’t a HUGE deal but if i’m being picky, I have to point it out.
Other genuine leather cover colors you can choose from are Ruby Red, Quarry Gray, and Onyx Black. If leather isn’t your thing, you can also select leather-lux or hard cover.
The pages in this book are printed on Professional HD Glossy paper. There is no shortage of gloss on this paper and the images are crystal clear. My only fear is leaving finger prints behind!
I like that the pages aren’t flimsy – they are nice and thick. I did make the mistake of keeping color correction selected when I ordered my book, and while it wasn’t terrible overall, it did make 1 or 2 photos look worse than I would have hoped. So if you are a professional and your monitor’s calibration is accurate, then obviously make sure you uncheck the color correct option! I wish I had realized it before placing my order.
Other photo paper options are Professional Luster, Professional Luster Linen, Professional Luster Pebbled, and Professional Deep Matte. Next time I would love to try one of the textured linen or pebbled papers.
The value of this book is $192.79+6.95 for shipping, a small price to pay for a professional looking photo book. Overall I am happy with AdoramaPix and the book that I ordered. The quality is excellent and the images look beautiful.
Sorry – the contest has ended! But be sure to follow the blog, as there will be more to give away in the future!
