Before I had my license back in the day, I spent the first year of my high-school life in Harrisonburg, Virginia. I never really got the opportunity to explore much of the area since I was too young. Bran and I went back this past holiday weekend and walked around downtown. Typically I like to have my SLR with me for times like this, but I failed to take it with me this time around. So, I resorted to iphone-photography.
It was Sunday when we went exploring so most places were closed. We ended up checking out a little place called the Earth & Tea Cafe. It was super cute with a very zen-ful vibe. The tea was delicious and the food was very good as well.
We also went back to a place I had been two a couple of times quite a few years ago called the Artful Dodger. This is an edgy coffee shop/bar/restaurant in the downtown Harrisonburg area. It’s easy to spot, as the building is covered with colorful murals. The inside takes artsy to the next level with its eclectic decor…..but our shoes were literally sticking to the floor in there! Yikes!
I love coffee shops and I visit at least one wherever I go. I think I prefer the classic coffee house over the bar/coffee combination. Nonetheless, this place offers a truly unique atmosphere for the adventurous. The drinks were alright – nothing to really write home about. I did not try the food though, so I can’t comment on that.
There were many other shops I really wanted to see in downtown Harrisonburg that I couldn’t since it was Sunday. Otherwise, there were many photogenic buildings to peek at as we walked by. It was kind of hard to believe that I used to live there when I never got to experience any of it….or at least very little.
